A Duolingo alternative for remembering your own vocabulary

If you are looking for a Duolingo alternative because you want to practise words from your own classes, tutor sessions or reading, LanguageRecap takes a different approach: personal vocabulary with spaced-repetition review, rather than a fixed course.

If you want a structured course from the beginning, LanguageRecap is better understood as a companion, not a like-for-like replacement. This comparison is written by LanguageRecap, not an independent reviewer.

Two different starting points

A guided course: what should I learn next?
Duolingo presents language learning through bite-sized, game-like lessons. A guided course can suit learners who want a ready-made study routine.
LanguageRecap: how do I remember what I just learned?
You bring notes from your own learning, review suggested words and translations, and save the vocabulary that matters to you. Short recaps bring those words back over time.

When LanguageRecap may be a good fit

  • You already take lessons and want to remember the vocabulary afterwards.
  • You meet useful words in conversations or reading and want a place to practise them.
  • You prefer a vocabulary collection based on your own material instead of only a preset path.

When you may want a different tool

If you need a complete course, live speaking feedback or extensive listening material, look for tools or teaching that provide those experiences. Vocabulary review is one part of language learning, not a promise of fluency.

Can I keep using Duolingo too?

Yes. You can keep using a course app and manually add vocabulary you want to practise in LanguageRecap. The apps are separate: LanguageRecap does not connect to your Duolingo account or automatically import your progress.
